Hemp Oil
The seeds yield wonderful oil, rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and enzymes that are easily absorbed by the skin. An excellent emollient, hemp oil helps moisturize and heal dry skin cracking, and reduces scaling.
Jojoba Oil
This liquid wax is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant. Jojoba contains more than four times the waxy esters found within human sebum, the natural moisturizing oils our skin secretes, so it helps skin maintain normal function. Its minerals and proteins help heal inflamed skin conditions, such as psoriasis or dermatitis. It also helps control oily skin, acts as a moisturizer and humectant, and has antioxidant properties. It can be used as a total percentage of the base recipe, used to super fat, or both to make a superior product. Make note of its low saponification value and adjust the sodium hydroxide accordingly.
Palm Kernel Oil
This oil obtained from the oil palm fruit kernel contains large portions of lauric acid. This fatty acid is unusual because it combines two mismatched characteristics: saturation and low molecular weight.
Sunflower Oil
Pressed from the seeds, this wholesome oil is full of vitamins and minerals. It is best used in combination with coconut oil, as it tends to result in a soft soap and is slow to trace. It is easily absorbed and can be used on all skin types. It has a high vitamin E content and forms a "skin" after drying. It produces medium-sized bubbles.
Wheat Germ Oil
Extracted from the germ of the wheat kernel, this antioxidant oil is high in lecithin and vitamins A, D, and E. It nourishes dry or cracked skin, soothing skin problems and reducing scarring. Wheat germ oil is sometimes called a natural preservative because of its high natural vitamin E content.
